My dad was a great sport as he allowed me to take a bunch of fun photos of him. I think he had a little fun helping me out, even if I did have to bribe him with crunchy bars (english candy bars!) to get him to do it!

Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-53865416453532496022009-06-13T01:15:00.010-04:002009-06-13T10:03:17.745-04:00June UpdateSo as usual our personal blog gets neglected as we update facebook and the photography site. But it's high time for this to be updated too, so here goes:

1) We're settled into our new living space now. Good location, neighbors, noise, and bug levels. The dogs like the backyard, which is super important. It's about the same distance to both of our offices, so the bike ride is still doable. Jemma is not happy that it's not full of color like the last place, but there's enough art and photography on the walls that it's ok. for now. But I'm sure she'll talk me into painting if we stay here any longer. It's just her way. Must. Have. Colors. Everywhere.

2) The trusty Volvo died, so we had to get a new car. We shopped some used cars, but the depreciation on them didn't match with the lost value of things like reduced warranty etc, so we ended up buying our first new car! It's a VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI, and we love it! It's been raining here, so no official pictures yet, but a photo shoot is forthcoming of course! Room for the dogs, racks for the bikes, 6spd manual, 30/41MPG make it a very good fit for us right now. And it is a pretty good ride for schlepping around the state for this photography thing we've got going on....

3) Which leads me to the photography business. It's been going really well. Totally redone website, tweaking the branding, honing our skills; all progressing ahead at a break-neck pace. We've booked more weddings in the first 6 months of year than I figured we'd do all of the year. Plus maternity/graduation/couple portrait sessions have been really fun too. We went to a photography workshop earlier in the year in Oregon, which rocked and taught us some things we'd been missing. We also recently got to assist/second shoot with a great Tallahassee wedding photographer, which was really encouraging and fun! Like I said before, gainesville wedding photographer site gets updated more often than this, so please check it out!

4) Now that the weather is a bit warmer we've been both riding bikes more. Commuting by bike to work together is really fun and a cool way to spend time together. Nothing brings you together like dodging cars while the drivers text away on their trip to work. Luckily we pay attention, plan for the worst, and hope for the best. But it's fun. I recently rode in an Alley Cat race, which is basically a bike scavenger hunt. I got 14th out of 60ish people, which is better than I expected to do, as I was shooting for winning the costume contest. Riding 20+ miles in a full UPS uniform, polyester pants and all, to win with the theme of the 1997 Kevin Costner Movie, "The Postman". Though I was devastated when I got 2nd place to a girl who had nothing postal on at all, it was a fun day. :sigh:

5) We are really excited to have off some time around the holidays this year for the first time since we've been married. We're looking forward to spending time with family and friends! Details forthcoming...

6) We're both on Twitter, updated at least daily. If you're on, look us up so we can follow you!

I'm sure there are things that I'm forgetting, but it's getting late, so this will have to do for now.David Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18159266285484181108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-22908176151139584182009-03-24T06:51:00.002-04:002009-03-24T06:56:12.697-04:00KC & Mikey - all of 'em

Check out the rest of KC & Mikey's engagement pics!Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-46669192243059587372009-03-20T11:54:00.001-04:002009-03-20T11:56:44.353-04:00I just had to share a pic of the cute DP's at a wedding we just shot. head on over to the photo blog to see some more of our latest work!

love, jemmaJemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-46449831045785124692009-03-01T22:19:00.003-05:002009-03-06T10:19:24.787-05:00ATL - KC & MikeWe were so excited to do a family trip this weekend in Atlanta to go and see Ben Folds (awesome!) and we decided to try to use the awesome ATL backdrop for some engagement pics for mike & KC. Unfortunately it pretty much rained the entire time David and I were there, so we didn't actually end up getting to go out and do many pics. We ended up doing almost the entire shoot at the end of the hallway of Clay & Elizabeth's student apartment which had awesome natural light which we supplemented with a little bit of flash. The rest was done in the parking garage attached to their dorm. This shoot was very fun because it challenged me to focus entirely on my subjects to create the image and make it good. Here are a few of my faves. :-)

tribute to mom!!

Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-90136093347260875492009-01-12T14:38:00.003-05:002009-01-12T14:47:43.814-05:00Moving... again (puh)Now that we've pretty much settled on the place, I figure I should go ahead and post that we are moving. How do we feel about that? Well, it's half "this sucks" and half "well, I guess we can save money, so that's good."

Estimating our Gainesville residency expectancy at about one year, we have chosen a lower priced home for our next place. The bonus is that though it is smaller and certainly less awesome than our current place, we aren't going to have to miss out on everything we gained. We will still have a yard, a laundry room, a paved driveway, central heat & air, and will have a good location (only a mile or so from this place). We will miss our garage, dishwasher, extra bedroom, extra living room, grassy yard, screened back porch, fun paint colors, and really nice neighbors.

We'll be moving at the end of the month. In the meantime, David is ordering a new engine for the pink car and Stink is coming up for a couple weekends to help put it in. Our goal is to have it up and running before we move so that no towing is involved.

My job is going to be trying to figure out what stuff we should ditch and what stuff we should keep. It's hard to say what you really neeeeed... we have gathered so much stuff and it isn't stuff you don't really need, but it might be stuff we don't really need right now. I'm so not looking forward to that!

Meanwhile, we are both still working full time, we have a few people thinking about hiring us for weddings, and we're trying to ride our bikes to work a fair amount of the time. Also, David's sister just got engaged and is expecting to get married May 2010. This is great motivation for me to ride my bike more to try to get in shape! I am trying to be helpful without being annoying to Kasey, though it is hard to tell from so far away and email communication. Oh well, sisters are meant to annoy each other, right?

;-)

Oh yeah, GO GATORS!!!Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-36170975594536507302009-01-10T02:00:00.005-05:002009-01-10T09:17:06.332-05:00wowDavid Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18159266285484181108noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-80813042324501227822008-10-28T21:32:00.004-04:002008-10-29T13:25:26.804-04:00What's new?I feel the need to blog, but I haven't got much exciting news to blog about. We're in the process of figuring out the holiday plans. One thing we know for sure is that we're going to our roomie Jessica's wedding in Deerfield Beach on the 27th of December, which means we're headed to the good ole' fort for Christmas.

I just finished up editing a massive quantity of photos including some for Dan & Sereen, whose wedding was in August. I always tend to beat myself up about not having finished things soon enough, and then when I'm done I realize, hey, it's only been two months, which is faster than I expected, so not bad...

David and I are still plugging away at our jobs, nothing too exciting there save some office drama for me and David doing way more work than one person should as usual. I guess something of interest is that David recently crashed his bike, his wonderful beautiful, long-awaited bike. So he's riding along, crossing three lanes of highway and going as fast as possible while shifting his bad mamma jamma shifters that are meant for racing and just such a purpose and whoopsie, his chain fell off. So David ended up head over bike over head over ... slam and sliiiide on the asphalt and ouch!

So I took off work that morning and we went to the ER, where the nurse did an excellent job cleaning David up. Unfortunately her bedside approach was to describe every thing she was doing, "Ok, so now I'm going scrub your deep abrasion with burning liquid on a spongey..." I did my best wife move, and told David to tell me about our prospects against LSU (it was THAT weekend! we missed out on the game - too many elbows close by to bonk David's) and that got him to a better place... ahhh football land. ;-)

He's healing up just fine, after a few weeks of soreness and changing dressings then graduating to band-aids and now just scabs! Since David was smart enough to insure his bicycle, we filed a claim and he's going to be able to get a new bike - so that's a bonus! Speaking of new bikes, I just got one myself and will be selling my old one. The new one works so much nicer and fits me! When we got it last weekend, I put it together myself, with a little help from David & Gary at Spin Cycle. I have ridden it a few times so far. I rode it home from work today in the freezing 50-something degree weather (and I want to move to Colorado?)and Northern winds and it didn't even bother me much because the gearing is so much mo' bettah!

David and I were very ambitious about doing weekly self-portraits a month or two ago, and so far we have done it three times. Oh well, at least we're still trying :-) It's been fun. Something we can do together that gets us to be silly, fun, and creative. Just what the Jemma ordered! ;-) Here are some from our latest "shoot".

Until the next urge hits me, adios amigos!Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-88068779159534505462008-10-08T13:16:00.002-04:002008-10-08T13:19:44.647-04:00house picsok family & friends, i've finally had the chance to get our photos of the house online for you to see! so check it out.

For a description - check our old post here. She was having contractions all day yesterday and after I got off from work and had gotten some dinner & a minute with David, I stopped by the hospital. Despite all Heather's contractions, there wasn't much progress in dilation. I went home to get some sleep & told them I'd come back when it got closer. I got a call this morning about 4:25am that she was at 10cm and would be starting to push soon! I got up, grabbed a Dew and a CLIF bar and headed to the hospital. I got there in plenty of time to watch Heather & Justin welcome their baby girl into the "outside". :-) They haven't settled on a name just yet, but we've all settled on the fact that she's here and is a keeper for sure. Here are a few shots of the sweet girl!

Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-70993264373244511742008-10-07T13:34:00.001-04:002008-10-07T13:34:52.678-04:00self-portraits again. check out the photoblog for more often updates!

Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-58166694268712610072008-09-15T17:21:00.001-04:002008-09-15T17:23:20.085-04:00Jocy got married!Soooo, we just got back from Colorado and are sooper pooped! We've finally gotten things mostly settled in our new place - it's nice that I don't look at each weekend or day off as time to tackle some other house project. At our new place, we've got three bedrooms; the brodie blue one is ours with a connecting bathroom in bright sherbet. Jessica, our awesome roomie lives in the room at the end of the hall. The last bedroom is an interesting shade of tan/brown and houses all of my crafty stuff! The other bathroom is turquoise and has an awesome shower curtain that David picked out. We've got sort of two living rooms, a big big kitchen, and a nice dining room. The cherries on top are the awesome back porch & yard plus a 2 car garage! We really love it here. Here are some pics!

On the job front, I just got a new job in Gainesville which means that I don't have to commute 50 miles each way to work! My new commute is 8.5 miles and it still takes me about an hour including changing clothes and freshening up, but it's all worth it since I am riding my bike to work!! WOohoooOOoooO! I'm very excited about this exercise opportunity! I rode in today for supervision this morning and then rode all the way back home. There were times when I had to psyche myself back into the riding on some of the longer hills, but I made it and I'm very proud of myself. :-P David does this every single day, so I have a lot to live up to!

I'm so pumped about the bike-riding that I often forget to talk about the new job. I guess part of the reason is that it isn't too much of a change. Same agency, different location, slightly different role. Instead of counseling children and going into the schools during the year and doing summer camp when school's out, I will be doing intakes half the week and the other half will be for seeing a small caseload of clients. Intake is the first appointment you go to with a therapist and at Meridian it isn't always with the therapist you will continue on with, but it is an important role as you are often the person who will represent Meridian to them on the front lines, so to speak. I'm looking forward to working with adults again & working on my skills with kids some more as well.

You probably figured out from of my photography posts that one of my best friends, Jocelyn is getting married to the wonderful Jeremy in September. It will be in Lyons, CO which is one of the best places to visit. I am going to be a bridesmaid, singing a little, and doing some photography with the best helper ever, the David. The wedding is going to rock and so will the party afterward! We're pretty excited as this will be our third wedding. I am also shooting one in August for the beautiful Sereen & talented Dan here in Gainesville. We just did our first wedding with Clinton & Felicia in May. They are the brave souls who gave me my first paid portrait session and now the first wedding. We just presented their photos to them last weekend and next is creating and designing their photo album! Exciting!

So, the photography business is trickling along, which is kind of perfect for us right now. My dream is to be able to get my license for counseling and have developed a decent part-time stint in photography by May 2010. It's so crazy to think about that being a year. Will I say "twenty-ten" or "two thousand ten"? It would also be sweet if I had time to get a hair-cutting and coloring permit by then too. I have this idea that I could be a stay-at-home-mom-slash-photographer-slash-therapist-slash-hair-didder and get the best of all worlds, plus cheap haircuts for the fam. Wouldn't that be sweet? We'll see what God says.

Speaking of God, we have been trying out a new church this summer. We've been going the The Family Church (TFC) in Gainesville and so far so good. We just finished up a Love & Respect class which focused on our marriage relationship. It was pretty enlightening and all that jazz. We learned some good stuff to practice. Next on our agenda is finding a family group to attend. We've been really blessed this summer with fellowship with our roommate and a few other friends like Jackie & Elijah, Renee, and Matt & Rebecca, so it has been easy to stay in that comfort zone.

I think that about sums up most of our life besides our trip to Colorado in May which I still need to edit photos for... David is going to post about that later I think. Thanks for checking in with us. Until next time...Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-41494869304227973012008-06-07T23:43:00.003-04:002008-07-11T15:38:51.260-04:00just a heads up that you should definitely check out the photoblog for exciting pics of Jemma's first wedding assignment plus some more engagement pics featuring Jocelyn & Jeremy! yay!

Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-14075950757655258032008-03-23T08:36:00.004-04:002008-03-23T09:02:59.378-04:00thanksgiving 2007 photosThis past holiday, when my Dad went into the hospital in early November, our Thanksgiving plans changed and we ended up going to Live Oak to meet up with my brothers Jacob and Jon and my mum. After searching the Georgia State Parks website, I found a cool place called Unicoi State park. I had heard of Helen, but I couldn't remember from where. We decided to drive to Atlanta after work on Thursday and then drive the rest of the way up Friday morning. Good idea, but when it's midnight and you're still not at your hotel and you've been up since 5am, it seems like a really dumb idea. After some NOS energy drink we made it to the hotel (which didn't have a king size bed like it was supposed to, and midget pillows instead of normal ones).

We got up and decided to find out something to do around Woodstock where the hotel was. According to Google on our phones, the coolest sounding thing was Tanglewood Farm. The attraction of a petting zoo full of miniature animals was pretty high, so we made the trek out to Canton on the way to Helen. From tiny head butting goats,

that had an escape plan...

but we caught them...

to tiny but loud donkeys,

big oinkin' pigs,

and mini jersey cows,

we had a pretty fun time feeding them bread and getting assaulted in the process.

The place was really clean and cute, highly recommended if you're in the area.

After we left there we made our way to the campsite at Unicoi. Driving up into the mountains through the winding roads, crossing little streams and bigger rivers, it was really picturesque. When we arrived at the lodge to check in, we pretty much had the run of any of the campsites, as out of season there aren't many people there. We picked a good location, and set the tent up,

unpacked our stuff and used some of our great new camping gear, thanks Kasey!

then went to the trading post

to get stuff we forgot (matches, lighter, fire wood, paper towels, etc) before it got dark. At the trading post they advised us that the ranger was doing a free s'mores thing at the lodge that night, so once we ate we headed up there to check it out. There we met Smith, an Interpretive Ranger. I'm not sure what he interpreted, but he was our buddy for the weekend. We were the only people at s'mores (remember, out of season, nobody is at the park).

So our first night of camping wasn't too cold. We had two blankets on the bottom (Jemma had a foam roll on her side), then two Coleman sleeping bags zipped together, and then we had our own sleeping bags inside that. Probably overkill for 40F, but we were prepared for sure. That morning, Saturday we got up and figured we'd go to NOC, as I was under the impression it was only about 30 minutes away. Not only was it closer to 2 hours away, but it was closed for the season. Good thing Jemma figured that out before we went out there. So instead we went to Anna Ruby Falls, the highest falls east of the Mississippi!

They were really pretty on a cold February morning, it was just very serene. As serene as a waterfall can be I guess. Too bad we didn't have on our best hiking shoes,

but we still enjoyed the walk.

We got back and were excited to use the fire wood and camp fire for lunch to make some hot dogs which was pretty tasty.

We walked around the park's many miles of trails and took some pictures.

It seems like Unicoi would be awesome if you had a mountain bike, and we probably would have rented some if we were going to be there for more than a couple of days.

At that point we were definitely feeling a nap, so we slept for a couple hours. We got up and checked out the knick knack shop and didn't buy some of this stuff.

Jemma beat me at ping pong.

Since we were some of the only campers in the park, we figured we'd try to go to all of Smith's programs throughout the week. Saturday afternoon was Nature Bingo, which somehow Jemma won all three times.

We figured she was cheating, but she got some sweet prizes anyways. We grabbed dinner at the lodge and a beautiful sunset.

Then, that night we went to the Black Bear informational program. Did you know that Black Bears don't truly hibernate, they only sleep for a week and then come out and eat and hang out, then go back in for a week? Or that Black Bears in South Carolina commonly have a white blaze on their chest? Me neither. A few other people showed up halfway through, so it wasn't just Jemma, me and Smith.

Once we were done learning about Black Bears and eating the good grub at the lodge, we made it back to our campsite to discover some new neighbors. At the end of the row we were on, about 100 yards away, somebody had set up a camper sometime during the day. These are the people who set up the direct TV outside their camper so the don't miss the latest episode of Top Model or whatever other garbage is on TV these days. Unfortunately, they felt it was good to play loud music after 8pm when we arrived back at the campsite. "They'll stop by 11," I say, knowing that's kinda the universal quiet hour for camping. Nope. Try after 2am.

The inconsiderate neighbors, rocky ground under the tent, and few degrees colder weather made the prospect of camping another night not quite as appealing. We had talked about splitting the trip back to Gainesville into chunks by stopping by Atlanta, so we decided to cut the camping portion of the trip a day short and spend the night in Atlanta. I called my cousin who lives in Atlanta with his wife and we stopped by.

They invited us to stay with them, which we graciously accepted. We had a good time with them, playing guitar hero, eating some good pizza at a local restaurant,

and just hanging out. Monday morning we went to IKEA, which was a pretty cool store.

They have breakfast, for super cheap, how cool is that? The girl behind the counter was really, really rude to Jemma when she picked up a plate from the big stack at the front of the line, but otherwise it was a good experience. We saw some really neato ideas for decorating a house (if we had lots of money) and had a pretty good time making fun of ugly/weird stuff.

Then we went to REI, which is a cool outdoor store with all kinds of fun stuff.

After the fun day in Atlanta, we said our good byes to Clay and Elizabeth, grabbed some Starbucks, and got on I75 heading south. It was a fun mini-vacation, everything from campfires to IKEA, got to see some family, overall a good time

check out all of the photos here: www.davidandjemma.com/images/gallery/helenatl

-dcDavid Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18159266285484181108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-59963663433510857712008-02-15T21:37:00.002-05:002008-02-15T21:42:53.083-05:00visitsSo today I flew from Gainesville to Charlotte via non-rev. which was totally sweet because in a matter of two hours I was two states away and it cost way less than driving would. It seems weird that earlier this morning I was in Florida.

My dad picked me up from the airport and we ran a few errands on the way home. Today I met the puppies they got just after Christmas and spent the day playing with them as well as just kind of chilling around the house. I'll post pics of them when I'm back in Florida.

Tomorrow starts the sewing and reupholstering madness, hopefully I'll be able to get everything done on their list. I enjoy being up here helping out and getting to be a part of their lives. I am looking forward to being able to do it more often now that they live just a short cheap flight away.Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-10954079490052356002008-02-11T18:45:00.000-05:002008-02-11T18:46:05.506-05:00a photo shootHave a look at the photo blog to see some new stuff!

JemmaJemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-58325310150603270322007-12-30T22:01:00.000-05:002007-12-30T22:29:59.215-05:00Christmas Party at the Bentley'sHallo! David is back at work. He rode his bike there this morning in freezing weather. We got him some under armor cold gear to wear so he didn't freeze his bum off. Usually David would ride his bike out of pleasure and desire to save gas. But right now, we only have one car and .... Coach is on the couch again!!!! I don't know what he thinks the big idea is! Usually Killian is the one on the couch. Stinky dog bums!

Anyway, so we're leaving on our trip last Saturday in the pink car. We've been doing pretty well budgeting lately and we thought we would go ahead and try to save some more money by taking the mx-3 on our trip with its better gas mileage. We wanted to get to SC around 2pm, so we got up at 5am and got on the road about 6:15am. About 7:15am David yells, "AAAAAAAAHHHH!" and I say, "What! What! What!" hyperventilating my way out of the start of what might have been a good nap. "The car is overheating." So we pull over immediately, open the hood, investigate and figure its leaking somewhere. Can't find it. Wait about 30 minutes for the temp to go down and start it up to turn back to Gainesville. Yep, so much for the savings on gas! Looks like we wasted money.

We get about 2 miles and find a place to fill it up with water. While we're there I notice a crack in a tube near the radiator and a puddle of water beneath it where we'd been parked. David thought that was definitely a leak, so we got some cheap electrical tape from the jiffy store and did our best sealing it off. Got on the road with full tank of water and another Slushie concentrate gallon jug full of extra water. We just wanted to get it home.

About 15 miles down the road, we notice lots of steam coming out of the exhaust (white smoke) and the temp decided to jump again which made David think, "Might be a head gasket." Pulled over, filled up the water again, started moving. This time it was only about one mile before the car went through all the water in its cooling system, blew it all out of its butt, and raised the temp again. We looked in the tank and saw some oil combined with the water, confirming David's hypothesis about the head gasket. At this point, we're aware we need to get it towed home, so we call and the best price we can get is "one and a quarter" which translated from southern to english means $125. We decided to get it back to the Wal-Mart a little ways back since they took cash only and we didn't have that much. That was interesting but we got it there and here's what the scene looked like, well at least from where I was sitting on the ground since we had to wait about an hour for the tow truck to get there!

Well, we finally got on the road again around 10am after getting home and transferring everything into the Volvo. On the way up we tried the Whataburger honey chicken biscuit breakfast. It was ok. Not phenomenal like we were hoping. We made pretty good time on the trip and enjoyed our travel snacks including IZZE sparkling fruit juice. Pure juice plus sparkling water. You can guess which one of us enjoyed that while the other enjoyed Gatorade. ;-)

We went straight to Charlotte Medical Center where my dad was waiting for a liver & a kidney transplant. He was very yellow and looked like he hadn't eaten in a month, which he kind of hadn't since all the medical complications added up to a non-conducive situation for eating and receiving sustenance. Daddy looked a lot worse than I expected and so I suggested to Joyce to call Mum & Jacob to come visit as soon as possible thinking if I were them, I'd want to know. Jacob and Mum planned a visit on Wednesday through Sunday.

Sunday morning we went to a nearby church where our cousin Daniel's wife Mary K's family is from! We got to meet them and they even invited us over for lunch after church. We got a few cute photos while we were at church. The one of Joyce & I got printed out and given to Daddy to put up in his hospital room.

These would be the famous Coleman eyebrows and purple passion...

Here's Mary K & Daniel, who we visited after Daddy & Joyce, being cute poots.

David and I hung out with Joyce at the beautiful house they built together, ran errands, conquered computer issues, and decorated for Christmas. Here's a pic of the exterior of the house which sits on five acres just 30 minutes outside of Charlotte, such a nice area!

One of our errand days involved helping pick out & order furniture for the house. We went to La-Z-Boy where Daddy & Joyce had found some good deals and assessed the situation. We found a beautiful fabric to match the Tuscan feel of the house for the furniture! Another day, I went to find some fabric to recover the barstools and kitchen chairs that would go with the new furniture. The bottom fabric is the couch fabric, the top two were swatches from Calico Corners for the barstools. I thought it would be stripe overload with the stripe, so we went for the paisley, isn't it beautiful?

I reupholstered the three barstools and four kitchen chairs and am going to be making new throw pillow covers this week at home. We didn't get every single thing done, but when we left on Tuesday night, we definitely felt like we had left Joyce with less things to stress over! I can't wait to see the new furniture when it gets in!

We headed to Columbia next and got to Mary K & Daniel's place about 11pm. After a little chatting and catching up we headed off to bed and had dreams of sugarplums and guitar hero and disc golf. The next day, Daniel & David headed off to play disc golf with Andy at a couple different courses in town and left me & Mary K to hang out. We ended up getting some shopping done and had lunch at the Tokyo Grill, which if you're from Gainesville, is exactly like Maui Teryaki. Yum! Later on we played some guitar hero, here is Daniel doing some sweet riffs...

For dinner, we headed out to Yesterday's which has been mentioned by ESPN's greatest college town places to eat. David had the signature dish, the Arkansas Traveler, which is this crazy southern dish of cornbread, slices of roast beef, black-eyed peas, and gravy. I had chicken strips with white gravy... mmm. I had forgotten about white gravy! I made a mental note to hit Dairy Queen on the ride down to Florida to relive some high school senior lunch memories.

We got to go on a tour of USC where Spurrier decided to try college football again. He just couldn't beat Urban this year. I think we ended up with the better end of the bargain! It was quite pretty and we even got to tour Andy's biology lab where he is researching how to turn a common reed into ethanol for powering cars. Neato!

We left the next day for Augusta after making D&MK David's special dish, homemade mac & cheese with bacon and chicken. We ditched the mushrooms for them, since they aren't a fan. It was awesome. We got to Aunt Diane & Uncle Jimmy's about 7:30pm and hung out with them chatting and whatnot and then got some good rest. The next day we went by Theresa & Larry's shop to say hi and drop off some Krispy Kreme. Nana & Popa were next on the visit list and we got to spend a few hours with them and help get some computer issues solved. In the afternoon, Aunt Michelle commissioned my personal shopper skilz and David played yet more disc golf with Joe B. While we were shopping, I got a voicemail from my dad that they told him that they might have a donor and the surgery could happen that night. That was really good news. We headed back to North Augusta for dinner with the Carpenter family at The Snug. It was great food and good fun. Later on in the evening, we got confirmation that Daddy would be getting his transplant surgery that night and it would start around 2:30am. It was so great that my mum and brother were there to sit with him and keep Joyce company throughout the process. God definitely arranged that.

Saturday morning I called and found out that Daddy's surgery was still under way and that things were going well. He had gotten the first incision at 5am and would be done around 2pm. We got the day started with some good breakfast at the Sunshine Grill/Cafe/somthin' with Aunt Diane & Tara. It was yummy! Then it was off to Hephzibah! First we went to see Danny & Michelle at Motivation Manor, where they are sharing a small space with Aunt Sheila until they get their house all finished up at their new property. Later we went to see the Badke's where I finally got the update on Arlene (Arly) their new Bassett Hound dog and we caught up with Aunt Carolyn too.

This is the regular couch situation at their house as I understand it...

Carolyn getting some love from Arly and some more Arly shots... she's so much fun!

We met up with Aunt Theresa for dinner at Vera Cruz, which if you're from Gainesville is pretty much exactly like Las Margaritas, just a different building! It was excellent food and we had a good time. We really liked the dips, which Joe is sampling one of below.

Daddy's surgery went well and he is in ICU for now getting recuperated and will soon be transferred to a regular room I'm sure and then he'll be getting to go home. They were speculating as early as this Saturday which would mean he'd be able to be home at his own lovely house if all goes well.

All in all it was a good trip, pretty jam-packed, but at least jam-packed full of good stuff. A few hiccups here and there (I know Daddy had plenty) but it was fun and we're glad we did it. It's nice to be home in our own bed and with our family of buddies and Mr. Jake.

Now for the prayer requests:

Job for me! We'd really like to pay my student loans off asap and start saving for a house so we can get out from under perpetually renting less than lovely properties with hassling management. Also, David's car is broken and we have some fixing to do there potentially, or maybe replacement of the vehicle.

Smooth recovery for Daddy. He is getting used to two new organs and has a lot of eating to do to get back to normal and his body sometimes doesn't want to cooperate because of the Crohn's.

Prayer for the donor's family. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, livers and kidneys needed and received. And more. We saw alot of people, didn't get to see some other people, and definitely had a good time.

The biggest thing was Jemma's Dad getting his transplant Thursday. That was definitely an answer to prayer. He's doing well so far according to the doctors, which is great. We stayed at their house for a few days, and man, is it amazing! I've seen pictures, but you have to see it in person. Great area of the country too.

Then we went to Columbia, SC to hang out with Mary K and Daniel. His hair is terrible. But we had fun going around Columbia, checking out genetically engineered switchgrass, Arkansas Travelers at Yesterday's, 36 holes of disc golf with Daniel and Andy, Guitar Hero ownage by Mary K, and lots of fun.

We rounded out our trip in Augusta, staying with Aunt Dianne and Uncle Jimmy. They were awesome hosts, and we loved getting to spend time with them. We made the rounds around Augusta/Hephzibah, seeing family and shopping. I played 18 holes of disc golf with Joe B, which I won, but we were oddly very even on almost every hole. Like, our drives would land within feet of each other, and when one of us hit a tree, the other one did too. Then we got Sno Cap from North Augusta, which rocked.

Alot more stuff happened, and we took pictures. Jemma will probably post some pictures and some other stuff, but that's all I got for now.

-davidJemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-78303770682945683772007-12-03T15:34:00.000-05:002007-12-03T16:44:57.231-05:00slackersOk so we've been slacking off on the whole updating thing besides my photography, so I thought I'd fill you all in.

David is still working at Nationwide, same job. He wasn't selected in the initial wave of applicants for the other job he would like to get, so he'll be reapplying in the first quarter. We're trying to look toward our future including David's journey through different Nationwide positions, he's hoping to go to commercial underwriting to get some experience, then move on to field underwriting, and eventually some sort of consulting job (he can tell you more about this), and finally he'd like to have his own consulting firm one day. We're thinking next year that he could start on his Masters degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology through Kansas State University, which can be partly paid for by work. We're excited about the excellent job David does already and I can't wait to see what more he does as he gets experienced.

I am graduating in about a week or so. I don't plan to go to the ceremony (BO-ring) but I'm hoping to share my joy in bits and pieces on the road with family when David and I are on vacation next week. So the story is that I will have my Masters in Education & Education Specialist Degrees in Counselor Education for both the Marriage & Family and Mental Health Counseling tracks. Next up for me is finding a job to start preferably in January so I can start working toward licensure and paying back the government for loaning me money to get through school! I'm looking in Gainesville right now. David and I were definitely set on Colorado for a while, but so far, it hasn't been extending its hand to us, so we're just keeping our feet here for now unless God shows us something else.

We're pretty satisfied in the house we're in. It's a good deal for a detached home (aka not sharing walls with other renters) and a fenced in yard. We love this part of town and even though the place isn't fancy by far, we may stay here another year or so. We'll know more once job situations start falling into place.

I've definitely moved into doing more photography even a little bit for hire. It's very exciting and I'm hoping that it will continue to take off. I quite enjoy the process and the fun of capturing life in action. I'm just now editing some photos I took of my friend Alan's art. He's going to be selling some online in the future and will need photos to advertise it. Check out his website at www.alansfolkartrevival.com

It just started to rain, so I better let the dogs in. Ok, they are frisky and only slightly wet. Now they are convinced a big bad criminal is outside and are patrolling the windows on the front of the house. Vera has to stand on her tippy toes to see as high as the other dogs. I grew some mustard greens (Florida Broadleaf) for Killian and it turns out that all the buddies like them. We have sooo much of it, it's ridiculous! I can bring some up to GA if you want! Don't know how they keep... Anyway, my garden is winding down a bit but I think I'm going to plant me some red potatoes and maybe something else... definitely more green peas. I need to eat the ones we just picked the other day. I'm really bad with vegetables like that, I tend to buy them or grow them in this case, and then I don't eat them and they go bad. That's why frozen veggies are the bomb!

So, the itinerary for our vacation & family trip is as follows:

Saturday, December 8th
6am depart Gainesville, FL
10am potty break/lunch in Savannah (you NEED to know!)
3pm arrive in Lake Wylie, SC
hang out with Joyce, visit Daddy in the hospital

Tuesday, December 11th
2pm depart Lake Wylie, SC
4pm arrive Columbia, SC, putz around until we can chill with Daniel & Mary K

Thursday, December 13th
6pm depart Columbia, SC
8pm arrive Augusta, GA at Aunt Dianne & Uncle Jimmy's (they offered us beds, sweet!)
hang out with the fam

Friday-Saturday Augusta & Hephzibah
sign up to hang out with David and Jemma! ;-)

Sunday, December 16th
1pm depart Augusta, GA
7pm arrive Gainesville, FL

prayer request follow ups
*Daddy is still in the hospital and it's looking like he'll be needing a liver transplant and possibly a kidney transplant as well. He's getting better but has a ways to go before he can come home. Please continue to pray for him.
*Tara found out that her brother is a match for bone marrow transplants when the time for that arrives, so that is definitely a praise!Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14665664.post-88499231255432552832007-11-23T13:07:00.001-05:002007-11-30T11:23:05.354-05:00kasey & friends shootkasey sue & her best buds in Ft. He's visiting from England. It was really great to spend time with him and have grown-up conversations with one of my cousins. I have quite a few over in England and I don't know many of them at all, and if I have seen them, it was when I was a baby or very young. I've had a few times of being with Tony and Bobby, his older brother, so I feel like I'm closest to them. Something I probably knew but didn't put my finger on before is that Tony is someone that puts himself in other people's shoes a lot... I think he'd make a pretty good counselor, he says a lot of the stuff that I had to go to school to learn. It was cool to talk about how we both think it's important to connect with family and try to build relationships where they have kind of faded or just haven't even started yet. I feel a little refreshed in my desire to work on that some more, knowing that he plays a similar role in England, not that people wouldn't get together, but that sometimes we all need a little nudge. :-)

So in the last couple days, I think I wore him out, dragging him all over town and trying to make sure he got to do some things that he needed to do (Christmas shopping) and got to see some things that would interest him or that he might not have gotten to do or see... Monday night mum dropped him off and we all ate Wendy's together. After she went home, we went to a free concert on campus at UF showing Less Than Jake, a rock/ska band. That was enjoyable and quite an experience, quite a few funny people in the crowd being ridiculous etc.

Tuesday we rode bikes to my garden plot in the community garden, then met David for lunch at Back Yard Burger. After that we hit the mall for Christmas shopping. We found out there was going to be a basketball game Wednesday night, so we thought about going to that... Later that night we played hold 'em poker. David lost first both games, which was probably good anyway since he needed to go to bed. Tony won the first game and we quit the second game as it seemed it was never going to end and Tony kept announcing what cards he had in his hand out loud instead of inside his head. Quite a few humorous moments there.

Wednesday was campus tour day and I dragged him all over campus to see the Football stadium, some of the main student areas, the O'Connell Center, & we picked up some basketball tickets as well. This was the day I remembered to actually take some photos. :-)

american football field

o'connell center ready for the game later that day

We got home and had some lunch, a quick conversation about God, and I headed to class for the afternoon. David got home soon after that and Mum met them at the house. We all went to the basketball game at 7. We took a few pictures of us watching the game, but not so much of the game... but, hey these will be more valuable to us later.

us "kids" watching the game

the height of maturity runs in our family

having fun being silly

UF shakers turned wigs, very attractive, perhaps there will be modeling in their futures

Mum counted down the seconds until she could go to the karaoke night, which I admit I wasn't too excited about. But hoping to save Tony from a night with 50+ somethings and karaoke by himself with mum, I decided to tag along and made mum later than she wanted because I needed to upstage her outfit and put on sparkley eye shadow for the club. :-P

So we went and it turned out we still had plenty of time to get in a few embarrassing songs (yay) so what a relief. Mum went first with the Carpenters hit "Rainy Days & Mondays" sounding exactly like the recording. Tony was up next, but as he said he hadn't had enough beers for that made me go first with "Can't take my eyes off of You" (the redone version by Lauryn Hill). The key was off but after a few adjustments, I found it and being a "karaoke virgin" everyone paid attention and clapped, mostly out of surprise I think that I didn't stink. haha...

So, Tony was up last singing "Take on me" by aha. I guess I wasn't expecting much since he said he was terrible and not that good and on and on, so it really surprised me when he was actually great! I think we all loosened up after that, well I guess Tony and I did, since Mum had no fear whatsoever from the start, and we all sang another song each and did a little bit of dueting.

"i got you babe"

So I've learned that clubs/bars that cater to 50+ somethings can be fun after all, though no less smoky. We're planning on another karaoke night Tuesday when Jake brings Tony down from visiting him in Columbus GA and that of course is going to be even more hilarious and fun... generating even more loverly photos!Jemma Colemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00178330412049762743noreply@blogger.com0
